RJ Stone won it again, and again he did it by having his best week when the season was on the line.
He went 10-4 and took the two seed and a bye. In the semifinal he beat Colby Fender 128.7 to 74.4. In the final he scored 154.8 — his second-best week of the year — with Derrick Henry running for 48.6 and Dak Prescott adding 26.7. Nick Carnevali scored 96.8 and it was over by the fourth quarter of the early games.
Carnevali is the story here, in the way that losing usually is. He went 10-4, took the one seed, scored 1,787.4 points and finished plus 384 — the most points and the best differential anyone has posted in this league. He had Jonathan Taylor for 352.6 and Jahmyr Gibbs for 325.6, including a 56.9 from Gibbs in week twelve and a 54.4 from Taylor in week ten, the two best individual weeks of the season. In week ten he scored 182.9, more than anyone had all year.
In the final, Jaxson Dart gave him 25.1 and everything else collapsed: Gibbs 5.4, Kyle Pitts 2.6, Blake Corum 1.8, Myles Garrett 0.2. Ninety-six points from a team that averaged 124.9 across the year, and he picked the last game to post one of his worst.
It is the second time in three years he has taken the one seed and not won. In 2023 he went 11-3 and lost the semifinal. He has the best regular seasons in the league's history and nothing to show for them.
The quarterfinals were unkind to seeds generally. Marcus Cardoza went 9-5 with the third-most points, took the three seed, and lost 95.1 to 83.6 to a 7-7 Colby Fender — an improvement on his 2023, when he finished last. Fender then scored 74.4 in the semifinal, so the round he won was the only one he showed up for.
Elijah Gomes made the playoffs for the third year running and put 149.5 on Brady Johnston in the quarterfinal, the biggest playoff win of the year, behind 35.9 from Amon-Ra St. Brown. He lost the semifinal by thirteen.
Brady Garcia went from third to twelfth. Aidan Cuozzo, the 2024 runner-up, went 5-9 and closed his season with a 46.4 in week seventeen, the lowest score anyone posted all year.
